A new Continental that is pure luxury. A grand tourer that with 30 way power adjustable seats will allow you to have maximum comfort.
And an interior that looks top notch if you ask me. I don’t see any shared parts with lesser Ford/Lincoln products.
If I win the power ball I will definitely be buying a new Continental

The concept looked better. Losing the chrome around the bottom really kicked the design down a couple of notches.

I miss the chrome on the interior and around the bottom. But I think they improved the face of the car. Something about that front end on the concept was just a little off to me

Perhaps it’ll look better in person, like the concept did, but as it sits, it just looks all around cheaper. Like they changed the stuff that really accented and made the design stand out, making the rest of the car just seem bleh.

“Hello, I’m a Maserati. Oh wait, I’m sorry, I’m a Jaguar. Was it a Rolls? No, I’m sorry, I meant I’m an Audi. Let me try this again. Hello, I’m confused, can you tell me what I am?”
I love Ford, but they blew it on this one. I’d rather drive a 1991 Continental with the anemic, 140 hp 3.8L than this thing, at least the ‘91 Connie wasn’t pretentious.

Sorry for venting like this on your post about your dream car, I’ll take my cynicism somewhere else now.

If you looked closely at the grill you will notice that the mesh chrome is actually the Lincoln logo repeated over and over again. A subtle touch that I think would help distinguish it to those who have a keen eye for detail.

It’s not the wood grain. The steering wheel, the shape of the center console, the dash...they all just look cheap to me. I think it’s because it’s so bland. There’s no style, it’s just there.
I can’t put pictures in posts here, but compare it to the CT6 and the S-Class. They both have wood on the steering wheel, curvy shapes along the dash, and clean swaths around the screen. The Continental is blocky and functional with bargain bin vents and a complete lack of design.

It’s a nice car. Kudos to Lincoln for finally making something that hides basically every bit of Ford that underpins it.
But, those door handles. Oh my god why on the chrome trim around the windows? There HAD to be a more elegant solution for those than that .

See to me the Lincoln interior looks better than the 7 Series or A8. It is more flowing. And that is quite a compliment for a car company that less than 5 years ago made bargain basement Ford interiors with fancy outfits.

Oh, I agree completely. This certainly isn’t the first time it’s happened, nor will it be the last. I’m just one of those few that’s not fond of the design of the new Connie.
As for one car looking like another, not the first time in history it’s happened, either:
Yes, yes, different cars and such. That said, they all utilized the stacked headlamp configuration, and there were some visual cues that resonated between the different manufacturers (most prominent with the Galaxie and the Fury in this instance).
Doesn’t mean I won’t unsee what I see in the Connie, though.

yeah it is for an 12 year old GM. and not name change, trim levels. STS= Seville Touring Sedan, the sporty (see more power and tuned suspension) was the top dog but ended in 2003 for a new platform/RWD stand alone model for 2005 model year. SLS = Seville Luxuy Sedan ( see less power, two choices of soft suspension, either the base fe1 (spring up front w/ air in back) or the ever so comfortable but unreliable and expensive to fix cvrss) which ended production in 2003 with left overs being 2004 models (like mine), and 127 more left overs being sold in china as 2005 models.
Also just verified, they are 12 way, still impressive for 12 year old GM. I just need to poopoo Lincoln when ever I can. haha cause I’m a jerk like that.

Ohh how weird you think SLS would be put above STS in the desirability lineup. And 12 way is pretty impressive for the day. Does it handle spiritedly on back roads or is it the classic land yacht set up?
itschrome
> JR1
01/12/2016 at 13:02 | 0 |
Yeah it’s weird, but every one wants the STS. But for the last gen (pre stand alone) You did get 25 more HP (and significantly worse MPG) and MagneRide before even the ‘Vette or Ferrari even had Magnetic suspensions. The STS handles very well for being a nose heavy (the engine is way out front, I’m talking almost Audi level here) FWD sedan. The MagneRide keeps it very flat and stable in the turns.
As for Mine, It does quite well as well. I have the base Fe1 suspension which is one of the reasons I bought it. While the Cvrss is awesome, it’s a pain to live with. How ever even with the base Suspension, It handles above where you’d expect it too. I do get some body roll and it can be a touch floaty but it does have independent rear suspension and double wish bone up front and multi-link I believe in the rear. So it’s less yacht like than you’d like. really the suspension is the limiting factor, push too hard and he’s gonna fight you back a bit.
there’s also much less torque steer than you’d expect too, which allows you to dive a bit more into the throttle than you’d think was safe with a 300ft-lb FWD beast. I’ll get spirited but not carried away. the ‘03 STS I had with Magneride was another story, she’d take much more spirited driving on the back roads with less push back. That car I’d dare say is right up with the old Civic’s with independent rear suspension when it comes who cars that can handle way more than they reasonably should given the nature of them.

Styling trends, too. One manufacturer is doing edgy, blocky design, others take on the trend and incorporate it. Then swoopy, then edgy, and so on. Good point.

Hmm I never realized it was that fun to drive on the back roads. I guess the “old man” Cadillac reputation probably wasn’t very deserving with this car then.
itschrome
> JR1
01/12/2016 at 15:38 | 0 |
It was deserved, it wasn’t till the fifth gen Seville (1998 - 2004) that the Seville really came into it’s own. the previous models were longer with shorter wheel bases and had less sophisticated suspension setup’s. the CVRSS was offered on fourth gen’s but was a nightmare. they were much more old man and yacht like. The 5th gen’s are shorter with longer wheelbases which makes them feel more planted to the road and less boat like in turns with the wheels pushed further out from center mass. This plus all the other stuff I mentioned above really brought them into what Gm was aiming for back in 1992 with the introduction of the 4th gen, a more euro style sports sedan. Which apparently means a large FWD V8 sedan, I don’t think any one from GM ever went to Europe or drove a European sports sedan. ahaha either way it works well in 5th gen trim.

itschrome

01/12/2016 at 17:04 | 0 |
I didn’t like it. I had a ‘05 v8 STS and I sold it after about 6 months. I think part of my probably was I expected too much from it, I mean V8 RWD! it should be awesome! it was OK, but i expected more. It felt more Old man cadillac than the the 5th gen SeVille. The sterring, was wonky and had zero communication back to me. The technology in the car was more of a burden than an assistance, nothing quite worked well. Like you had to stop the car to switch suspension modes.. Yeah cause I’m thinking that far ahead. and the different setting on the magneride weren’t even that different. You had firm, and tank like. which sucks because the ‘03 STS was more or less perfectly tuned. the transmission was a bit garbage too. the manual mode was slow and not worth the time. If you tried to kick the back out a bit the nanny state would intervene before things got fun. the only thing I did like was the engine! That glorious, glorious LH2 Northstar. 320Hp and 315ft-lb from the Northstar with continuously variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust. some aspects of the interior seemed like a step back, as far as material quality as well. there’s a reason i think the CTS has out lived and also out grown in size I believe as of this current model year.

Well... I was planning on buying one this summer but it looks like I will have to test drive it first. Granted I will be coming from a 2000 S10 so I imagine it will be a big improvement to me.
Glad you enjoyed the engine does it push you back in your seat? Also how was highway mpg and reliability? From what I have seen on the STS forum the car is pretty much solid.
itschrome
> JR1
01/12/2016 at 18:51 | 0 |
Yes, drive one! you’re experience might be different than mine. Reliability is more or less solid, minus the usual GM bullshit. MPG are, not the best over all. the gearing on the 2005 was for acceleration, 3.42:1 gears I believe. this is great for off the line, not so great for cruising. While my 04 will turn about 1900 rpm at 70mph the ‘05 would be pushing more like 2500/3000 on the high way. The ‘04 has a 3.11:1 final drive, which drops 0-60 but smooths things out on the high way. that’s the real deal with my car, it’s a cruiser. the STS is in the middle of being either a cruiser or a bruiser. I average 27mpg highway with my ‘04 the ‘05 bested at about 23. Also god help you if you’re driving surface streets, 15/18 all day. I average about 19/20. I mean still not bad for a v8 RWD.

01/12/2016 at 21:27 | 0 |
Well that's still an improvement from my truck but I was hoping for more like 25 on the highway. And glad to know it is more or less reliable. I'm excited. Hopefully if that is what I buy the insurance won't kill me.

01/12/2016 at 21:51 | 0 |
Well, you know the v8 isnt the only option. I never drove one but I have been eye balling a 2nd gen v6 AWD. The first gens only have 255hp but the 2nd gem is the direct injection 3.6 the camaro uses , I’ve driven a V6 camaro and I thought highly of that v6. Plus they made a bunch of changes to the 2nd gen that might have erased my cons of the 05 I had. Plus the 2nd gen v6 could be had with all the same options as the v8. So you dont have to have a base model which is nice. If you’re into unicorn hunting look for a AWD v8, I have yet to find one in the wild.
Also the great thing about thwm is the average owners age is near death. Which has a ripple effect of lower insurance and less looks from the police. Just keep it stock, rims +cadillac =hope you like getting pulled over if your under 35/40
JR1
> itschrome
01/12/2016 at 22:03 | 0 |
I see the awd 8 on Craigslist all the damn time! And I know the V6 is an option but the appeal of a V8 is so hard to pass up.
itschrome
> JR1
01/12/2016 at 22:34 | 0 |
Yeah, and the LH2 northstar is sublime. Its honestly the last unique v8 I think GM will ever make. Whats a shame is that they killed it. I can’t help but think that it had more to give. The super charged 4.4Lt is just an example of it. People get 390ish hp out of the northstar, image what direct injection and a factory tune could do. Not to even talk about turbo possibilities! I understand the cost messures GM needs to watch but cadillac deserves a stand alone halo engine. Thats one of the biggest differences between old caillac and Lincoln. They stood apart from the rest of GM with both tech and engines. Still do sort of. But that continental is just a tuarus spin off, again.
JR1
> itschrome
01/13/2016 at 08:05 | 0 |
It isn’t a Taurus spinoff! The platform is completely changed. That is like saying the CTS and Camaro are the same thing because they use the same platform.
Anyway I agree one thing I like about these older Cadillacs is the unique engine. It makes them a little more exclusive and special. Might cost more but luxury should cost more.
